Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: the positive aspects of the hotel, the issues with the food, and suggestions for improvement. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or expressed with limited clarity, such as the mention of 'crowded area' and 'long waiting in ques'. To reach a higher band, ensure that your explanations are more precise and directly linked to the specific complaints of the participants. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the requirements are met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Lastly' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and some transitions are awkward, such as 'Whereas, some of our participants...'. Additionally, there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as 'This short of problem we are getting know about the catering department'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas would enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'hospitality', 'organization', 'ambiance', and 'dissatisfaction'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'make our meeting special' (instead of 'a success'), 'heating technic' (instead of 'heating equipment' or 'system'), and 'getting know about' (instead of 'becoming aware of'). While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the precision of your message. Expanding your vocabulary to include more natural collocations would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'the time and effort you and your team make to make' (redundant), 'which served as a lunch' (incorrect passive voice), 'they praise about' (incorrect verb usage), and 'please look it in to it' (incorrect phrasal verb usage). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and consistent verb tense application.
