Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear sir or madam
I am writing this letter to discuss about the last meeting i hosted at the hotel and the matters i think we should improve on.
firstly, the meeting went very well and my guest were very happy and enjoyed their time. They complimented about a lot of things about the hotel; they loved the environment how spacious it was , they loved the design of the hotel especially the rooftop that has its own lounge, they loved the swimming pool area too. Then mostly especially they loved the staff service how respectful, friendly and organized there were in everything they did and i was very happy hearing this.
But they was just one problem they complained about and it was about the food. Got alot of complain about how the food took so long to prepare and also the taste of the food was not so good, many said it was too salty while some said it was too spicy and they were disappointed about this particular issue.
For the benefit of next time i would love if ; firstly you can tell the chefs preparing the dishes not to take so many hours and time to make and serve meals that has been ordered. secondly; they should always be more careful and cautious with the amount of salt and spicy pepper that is been added to the food during the process. They are professionals so they need to step up and look into this issues.
i hope this letter finds you well and the food issue improves, thank you.
yours sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly identify the positive aspects of the hotel, explain the issues with the food, and provide constructive suggestions for improvement. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although some phrasing is slightly informal. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. To reach a higher band, ensure that the tone remains consistently professional throughout, avoiding overly conversational phrases like 'step up' when addressing a manager.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. There is a clear progression of ideas from the positive feedback to the complaints and finally the suggestions. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'firstly', 'secondly'). Additionally, the transition between sentences could be smoother; some sentences are quite long and run-on, which affects the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and using more sophisticated referencing would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some descriptive language such as 'spacious', 'complimented', and 'cautious'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'discuss about' (should be 'discuss'), 'mostly especially' (redundant), and 'spicy pepper' (unnatural collocation). The vocabulary is sufficient for the task but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Focusing on more natural collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing will help improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include capitalization errors ('i', 'ifeanyi'), subject-verb agreement issues ('they was just one problem'), and punctuation errors (missing commas and incorrect semicolon usage). Some sentences are run-on, such as the long description of the hotel features. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, consistent capitalization, and ensuring that subjects and verbs agree correctly.
