Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to provide feedback about your hotel. I have arranged an one conference meeting for my business unit on August 2nd, and I have received myriad possitive review about hotel service and few complaint about food from my employees.
Your hotel employees were extremely friendly during our previous visit. Apart from this your customer service was excellent and hotel was perfectly clean. Every staff were following rules and regulations even though they organised internet facilities for our meeting. They were always checking about our business event.
Majority of my workers suffered various issues in the restaurant. Kitchen staff were obeying food safety standard and they were not wearing gloves and hairnets during serving. Most importantly, the quality of food was not sufficent even I personal found hair in my meal during our last visit.
I would appreciate it if you use proper ingredents for food and improve the hygiene of your kitchen employees. If possible, hire professional cheff and workers.
I hope my feedback will assist you to rectify the problems at kitchen in your hotel.
Yours faithfully,
Piyush

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the task: the positive aspects of the hotel, the issues with the food, and suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestion to 'hire professional cheff' is a bit brief. To reach a higher band, you could expand on how these changes would benefit the hotel's reputation or ensure future business. Despite this, the purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader is fully informed of the situation and the desired outcome.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Apart from this' and 'Most importantly', to link your thoughts. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes a bit mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the transition between sentences feels more natural. The overall structure is sound, and the paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different points of your complaint.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'rectify', 'myriad', and 'regulations'. However, there are several instances of incorrect word choice and spelling errors, such as 'possitive', 'sufficent', 'ingredents', and 'cheff'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do highlight a need for more careful proofreading. To achieve a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure that your spelling is accurate. While you attempt some less common vocabulary, the frequency of minor errors keeps this criterion at a mid-level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'an one conference meeting' (should be 'a conference meeting'), 'Every staff were' (should be 'Every staff member was'), and 'I personal found' (should be 'I personally found'). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely cause confusion for the reader. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of adverbs. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will help you move toward a higher band.
