Student answer (Band 6.0)
Task 1.
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter to share feedback on the recent meeting of our company held in your hotel.
All the participants who arrived in the meeting were delighted to see the hotel ambience. There were positive feedback regarding the venue as everyone who participated liked the hotel. However, there were some negative feedback regarding the food that was served for lunch.
The participants claimed that the food was not up to the mark as compared to the venue. Moreover, the food service was quite disappointing as the guests had to wait in long queues for their turn to get food. Additionally, the food served was cold due to which it doesn't taste good.
Although, everyone liked the interior of the hotel, yet food service was disappointing. I suggest you to please look after this matter. You must improve the catering services so that such kind of problem must not be faced in future.
Yours Sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly state what participants liked (the ambience), explain the issues with the food (long queues and cold temperature), and provide a suggestion for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. To improve, ensure you provide more specific detail in your suggestions; for example, instead of just saying 'improve the catering,' you could suggest a buffet style or a change in the menu planning. The ideas are relevant and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However,' 'Moreover,' and 'Additionally' to link ideas. However, the use of 'Although' followed by 'yet' in the final paragraph is grammatically redundant and slightly awkward. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points of the letter. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure that the transition between sentences feels more natural rather than mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'ambience,' 'catering services,' and 'disappointing.' There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'up to the mark' (which is slightly informal) and 'doesn't taste good' (which is a bit simplistic). The phrase 'such kind of problem' is also slightly unnatural. To improve, try to incorporate more precise adjectives and professional collocations related to hospitality and service feedback to enhance the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'There were positive feedback' (should be 'was'), 'due to which it doesn't taste good' (tense inconsistency: 'didn't'), and 'I suggest you to please look after' (should be 'I suggest that you look into'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and maintaining consistent verb tenses throughout your writing to improve accuracy.
