Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to let you know about the feedback from the meeting that was held at your hotel on 8th August 2026 with the employees of my company.
To begin with, meeting was scheduled at 11am in the meeting room on the fifth floor. The participants were all received by your manager and team by 10:15am which depicted a warm gesture and start to the day. As we were a big group of 15 people and our delegation of 5 people from another city was also joining us, the 4 elevators at your hotel were a blessing as each was functioning well. The delegation was impressed by the interior of your hotel and it added value to the meeting. The meeting room had a good aroma, with comfortable seats and the sparkling water for each person at the table was cherry on the top. The presentation went smooth as the internet speed was above average.
After the meeting, all the participants were escorted to the dining hall to have lunch. I, specifically requested for vegan options as well but sadly there were none available. Some participants could not even have salad as it had egg in it. Moreover, the cooked food was stale and non-vegan participants also could not eat their meal well.
As you have a reputed hotel, I suggest that you work on other parts of your services as well like. You should hire international chefs that can cater to a variety of people with distinct food choices and allergies. This can happen in the future with another company so I want you to take immediate action words the dining experience of participants at your hotel as food is one of the major aspect of the hospitality.
Kind regards,
Amal Hamid

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly identified the positive aspects of the hotel, provided specific reasons for the dissatisfaction regarding the food, and offered constructive suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the context of a corporate meeting. You have maintained a consistent focus on the task requirements throughout the letter, ensuring that the manager understands both the successes and the failures of the event.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'After the meeting', to link your ideas. However, the transition between the positive aspects and the negative feedback could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall progression of ideas is logical and easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, such as 'delegation', 'functioning', 'aroma', and 'hospitality'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'action words' instead of 'action towards' and 'major aspect' instead of 'major aspects'. Despite these minor slips, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly and effectively. You attempt to use more sophisticated language, which is appropriate for this level, and your word choice generally supports the formal tone required for a complaint letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While there are some grammatical errors, such as 'meeting was scheduled' (missing article) and 'presentation went smooth' (should be 'smoothly'), these do not impede communication. Your control of punctuation is generally good, though there is a minor error with a trailing sentence fragment: '...services as well like.' Overall, the majority of your sentences are clear and error-free, showing a solid grasp of English grammar suitable for a formal letter.
