Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to provide feedback for recently organized event in your hotel.
All the employees of my company like the arrangements and ambience of the hall. They were appreciating the behavior of all the staff members and their availability. Also, they mentioned positive response related to infrastructure. However, everyone were really disappointed with the food quality. All the dishes that served to participants were not fresh and tastes bad. I felt bad as I took the whole initiative to organize this program.
I would like to request that you should be more careful and check the quality of the food before it serves. Also, you can create some guidelines around food that needs to be follow by all the staff members. In this way, you will be able to manage the food quality.
I hope you will consider my feedback and take some appropriate steps so that you can improve reputation of your hotel.
Yours sincerely,
Muskan Garg

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly state what the participants liked (ambience, staff, infrastructure), explain the dissatisfaction with the food (lack of freshness, poor taste), and offer constructive suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific details about the food, such as mentioning that the lunch was cold or that the variety was insufficient, which would further develop your ideas and demonstrate a more sophisticated approach to the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Also', and 'In this way' to link your ideas. To improve, try to vary your transitions and use more sophisticated cohesive devices to connect sentences more fluidly. For example, instead of starting multiple sentences with 'Also', you could use 'Furthermore' or 'Additionally' to improve the flow and reduce the repetitive structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'ambience', 'infrastructure', and 'initiative' correctly. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and awkward phrasings, such as 'positive response related to infrastructure' and 'tastes bad' (should be 'tasted bad'). The vocabulary is functional but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more natural collocations and precise adjectives to describe the quality of the food and the service provided.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('everyone were' instead of 'everyone was', 'dishes that served' instead of 'dishes that were served') and tense inconsistencies ('tastes bad' instead of 'tasted bad'). Additionally, there are minor errors with articles and prepositions, such as 'before it serves' instead of 'before it is served'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score.
