Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express unsatisfied feedback I received from participants about food you served for lunch yesterday.
Attendees liked many amenities including large meeting rooms and indoor gaming areas. They enjoyed the different games like Chess. Furthermore, they were impressed by parking technology you have implemented. They found parking space for their car very quickly by following digital screens.
Attendees mentioned that they felt majority food dishes have lack of spices. They felt the curry was watery and bread was not fresh. One group of attendees mentioned that they consume food outside the hotel by their own money.
I highly recommend that you need to create a standard operating process and train your staffs to follow that. Moreover, Any senior staff need to perform quality taste before serving to guests.
I hope you take our feedback series and start to work upon the things I suggested.
Yours sincerely,
Sahil

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly identified the positive aspects of the hotel, explained the specific issues with the food, and provided actionable suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, instead of just saying the food lacked spice, you could describe the impact this had on the participants' overall experience of the event. However, the task requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use transition words like 'Furthermore' and 'Moreover' to connect ideas, which helps the flow. However, some cohesive devices are used in a slightly mechanical way, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'the majority food dishes', which sounds unnatural. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking phrases and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents to make the text feel more cohesive and less like a list of separate points.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'amenities', 'implemented', and 'standard operating process'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'unsatisfied feedback' (should be 'negative feedback'), 'majority food dishes have lack of spices' (should be 'lacked seasoning'), and 'consume food... by their own money' (should be 'at their own expense'). These errors occasionally impede the natural flow of the text. Expanding your range of collocations will help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the parking technology', 'the majority food dishes') and verb forms ('Any senior staff need to perform quality taste'). Some sentences are slightly disjointed due to missing prepositions or incorrect word forms. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct usage of articles. Despite these errors, the communication is not significantly impeded, and the reader can easily understand your points.
