Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr. Manager,
Greetings of the day. I hope this letter finds you in best of your health and spirits. I am writing to express the feedback for your esteemed hotel.
First of all, arrangement in the hotel was impressive and it is being appreciated by participant who have joined in our all-day meeting. Our co-worker was happy with warm-welcoming ceremony done by your staff member. Moreover, they liked decor of the allocate rooms, conference and lunch hall of the hotel that had got everyone attention.
However, there are few feedback given by our participants about the food served at the lunch hall. Many people from the crowd does not like the taste of mixed- vegetable dish served that was not the same as they have expected. Furthermore, shortage of cream and sugar supplies at the beverages counter made a little discomfort and unhappy to my guest.
There are some suggestion which might help in food improvision in future. A meeting with a organizer before event day will provide a holistic idea about the guest requirement. In that meeting, organizer will go through all the arrangement that include a taste check of the food that would be served in front of guests.
I hope my suggestion will help you in towards improving the food serve for the future. I look forward to see this improvision for the next event.
Yours faithfully,
Manpreet Singh Bawa

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully identified the positive aspects of the hotel, explained the issues with the food, and provided a constructive suggestion for improvement. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening 'Dear Mr. Manager' is slightly unnatural given the prompt provided 'Dear Sir or Madam'. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, though some points, such as the specific complaint about the 'mixed-vegetable dish', could have been explained with slightly more detail to fully develop the argument. Overall, the task requirements are met effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Moreover', 'However', and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. While these are effective, the flow is occasionally interrupted by minor grammatical errors that affect the cohesion of individual sentences. For example, the transition between the complaint about the food and the suggestion for improvement is clear, but the referencing could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different stages of the letter, which helps the reader follow your argument easily.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'esteemed', 'holistic', and 'discomfort'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and non-standard collocations, such as 'food improvision' (should be 'improvement'), 'done by your staff' (should be 'provided by'), and 'had got everyone attention' (should be 'caught everyone's attention'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations. Expanding your vocabulary to include more natural phrases for formal complaints would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('Many people... does not like', 'participant who have joined') and article usage ('the decor of the allocate rooms'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and phrasing errors, such as 'in towards improving' and 'I look forward to see'. While these errors are frequent, they rarely cause confusion or impede the reader's understanding of your message. To reach a higher band, focus on consistent subject-verb agreement and refining the accuracy of your complex sentence constructions.
