Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this letter in regarding to explain the recent meeting, I have organised in your hotel, which was on the Friday, last week. I am glad that the event went well because of your arrangements, which also appreciated by all the participants. In their feedback, they liked the decoration and cleanliness of the place. Moreover, the hospitality provided by the staff was very well, which result in none of the guests had to wait for the things they need.

However, there is one thing I have to bring in this letter about which the people were unhappy. Participants share the feeling that food was not good. There was complaints about some of the dishes were very spicy to tolerate while other were bad in regard of freshness.

I would suggest that quality of food should be seriously monitored. Also, you should hire more qualified cook to prepare food for the guests in the future. Despite of this, I am happy that rest of the meeting went well.

Yours Sincerely,

Aman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You clearly identified the positive aspects of the hotel, explained the issues with the lunch, and provided suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For example, while you mention the food was spicy or not fresh, providing a specific example of a dish or a clearer description of the impact on the guests would have strengthened the response. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the requirements are met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'Also' to link your ideas. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'I am writing this letter in regarding to explain'. Additionally, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to create a more natural progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body, and conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You use some appropriate phrases like 'hospitality provided' and 'seriously monitored'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'result in none of the guests had to wait' (should be 'resulted in none of the guests having to wait') and 'qualified cook' (should be 'qualified chefs'). The vocabulary is functional but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'in regarding to explain' (incorrect prepositional phrase), 'which also appreciated' (missing auxiliary verb 'was'), 'the hospitality... was very well' (incorrect use of adverb instead of adjective), and 'Despite of this' (incorrect preposition). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy of your writing. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will help improve your score.
