Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to express my regret towards the service which I received on 29th July. We organized a business concert to introduce our newly launched product in the market. I received the overwhleming comments from my colleagues such as better audio quality, wide-screen visualization, and the sitting arrangement was prefect. However, the food service was quite disappointed. Although there are plenty of food choices, the reason that I mentioned is it was overcooked or re-used, which is not only unhygienic but also tasteless.
The timings for serving the lunch was quite late, which was around 2 pm. Since my staff members were waiting in a long queue, it caused us delay in meeting schedule. I had invited some of the officials from foreign country, and they did not get the vegan meal options. Most of the prepared meals were non-vegetarian.
I would be grateful if you could ask preference of the customer prior to schedule the event, and the food should have enormous options. I hope this issue would be taken into consideration at your earliest convenience.
I hope we would recieved a better service in the future.
Your faithfully,
Gurdeep Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: the positive aspects of the hotel, the issues with the food, and suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. However, the development of ideas is slightly uneven. For instance, while you mention the food was overcooked and late, the suggestion for improvement is a bit vague. To reach a higher band, ensure that your suggestions are more specific and directly linked to the problems identified, such as requesting a pre-event menu tasting or a more diverse catering contract.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a distinct aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'However' and 'Although' to connect ideas. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that referencing is always clear. For example, in the second paragraph, 'the reason that I mentioned' is slightly awkward and could be replaced with a more direct transition to improve the flow between sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'overwhelming', 'visualization', and 'unhygienic'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'business concert' (likely 'business conference'), 'sitting arrangement' (should be 'seating arrangement'), and 'enormous options' (which sounds unnatural in this context). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focus on using more precise collocations to convey your meaning more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the food service was quite disappointed' (should be 'disappointing'), 'timings... was' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'we would recieved' (incorrect verb tense). Additionally, 'Your faithfully' is a common error; it should be 'Yours faithfully'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and verb tense consistency throughout your writing.
