Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Manager,

I am writing to share the feedback of my participants about the meeting that I organized for my company in your hotel last Saturday at Grand Sitara Hotel.

You would be happy to hear that my participants really liked your hotel. Firstly, the prime location of the hotel as it close to the highway and also connecting to renowned town centre of the city. Secondly, the decoration in your hotel was excellent, everyone was praising about the color combination in the meeting hall. Especially, the sound system in your exhibition hall was great and audible to everyone. Even there was marriage celebration next to the exhibition hall but still the sound proof walls of the hall make my presentation extremely satisfied.

I would like to suggest you to hire not only trained but also experienced chef for your kitchen. Because, that day my participants did not like the quality of food. Some vegetable had too much salt and other dishes were not properly cooked. Which made their mood upset. other than that my meeting agenda went successful.

I hope you will take my suggestion in consideration and hope to visit again.

Yours sincerely,

Lovejeet Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly identified the positive aspects of the hotel, explained the issues with the food, and provided a suggestion for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas could be more balanced; the section on the hotel's positive features is quite detailed, while the explanation of the food issues is slightly brief. To reach a higher band, ensure that the explanation of the problem is as fully developed as the positive aspects, perhaps by providing a specific example of how the poor food impacted the meeting's atmosphere.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter follows a logical structure with clear paragraphing. You use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Especially' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Even there was marriage celebration next to the exhibition hall but still...'. The flow between sentences could be improved by using more varied linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the progression of ideas is logical throughout the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'prime location', 'renowned', and 'audible'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'praising about' (should be 'praising') and 'make my presentation extremely satisfied' (should be 'made my presentation experience satisfactory'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over collocations. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and ensuring correct preposition usage would help elevate your score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'as it close to' (missing verb 'is'), 'Which made their mood upset' (sentence fragment), and 'take my suggestion in consideration' (should be 'into consideration'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Additionally, try to avoid sentence fragments by ensuring that every clause has a clear subject and a finite verb.
