Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are doing well. My name is Ridhi Administrative Assistant at XYZ Company, last week our company booked a reservation for a meeting along with lunch. I recently came across with our participants feedback about your hotel and services. They were quite happy about all the amenities however; they were disappointed with your food.

For this purpose, I would like to explain you about the justification for food is that some attendee mention that they felt food was partly uncooked meanwhile some express they experienced excess of salt in some dish, despite of these things they really enjoyed the ambiance of hotel and the board room in which the sitting area was comfortable and view from the window was amazing.

I would like to suggest you have a check on your chefs and double check the food quality. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Ridhi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You successfully identified the positive aspects of the hotel, explained the issues with the food, and provided a suggestion for improvement. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding the food quality is a bit repetitive and lacks professional detail. To reach a higher band, ensure that your suggestions are more specific and actionable, and maintain a consistent formal tone throughout the letter. The purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader is left in no doubt about the situation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into three distinct paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of your argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'however' and 'for this purpose' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced, such as 'For this purpose, I would like to explain you about the justification'. The use of punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with the semicolon usage in the first paragraph. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'amenities', 'ambiance', and 'consideration'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and collocation errors, such as 'came across with our participants feedback' (should be 'came across our participants' feedback') and 'excess of salt in some dish' (should be 'excessive salt in some dishes'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more natural collocations would help you achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'My name is Ridhi Administrative Assistant' (missing punctuation/preposition), 'explain you about the justification' (incorrect verb pattern), and 'some attendee mention' (subject-verb agreement error). While these errors rarely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of prepositions to improve your accuracy.
