Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to provide some feedback on behalf of the participants from the meeting held on 25th august at your hotel. The party was perfectly organized, and all your staff members were extremely helpful.

All the participants praised the professional atmosphere created through effective seating arrangements and other internal decorations. They were happy especially about staff members' assistance and positive professional behavior.

However, there are some negative feedbacks provided about the food served during the lunch. It was too cold to eat and your menu had very limited vegetarian options, due to which some people were left with no other option. They had to stay hungry throughout the day.

Our company members have been always choosing this hotel because its location is convenient to us, and these kind of reviews does not match to your pubic profile. I would suggest you to take all the given points in consideration and improve those to avoid the same happening in the future. Moreover, you should include more varieties in food considering both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes.

I hope these comments and suggestions would help you.

Yours Sincerely,

Rahul

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly state what was liked (staff and atmosphere), explain the issues with the food (temperature and lack of vegetarian options), and provide constructive suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. To reach a higher band, ensure that the connection between the company's history with the hotel and the specific complaint is slightly more integrated to enhance the flow of the argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Moreover', and 'due to which' to link ideas. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is slightly mechanical. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'professional atmosphere', 'effective seating arrangements', and 'convenient'. There are a few minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'negative feedbacks' (feedback is an uncountable noun) and 'pubic profile' (likely a typo for 'public profile'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more precise or sophisticated collocations would elevate the response to a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. Most sentences are clear and easy to follow. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'these kind of reviews does not match' (should be 'these kinds of reviews do not match') and 'take all the given points in consideration' (should be 'into consideration'). Despite these occasional errors, your control of grammar is generally good, and the meaning is never obscured. Punctuation is generally accurate throughout the letter.
