Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing to express my concern about the service provide by you during our meeting yesterday at your hotel.

I was really amazed how well the event was organized. The participants were satisfied by the overall service provided. They specially mentioned that it was very convenient for them to navigate through out the hotel due to appropriate directions. Additionally, the staff were welcoming and supportive.

However, majority of them were unhappy about the food services. They complaint that the meet was not fresh and also the spicy level was inappropriate for everyone to enjoy their meal

For future meeting, I suggest that you that you check the quality of meet before cooking as well as discuss the spice level and if possible arrange for a sample taste.

Hope you would take the above issues into consideration and take appropriate action in future meeting.

Thanks & Regards,

Reshma

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: the positive aspects of the hotel, the issues with the food, and suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the food was not fresh and the spice level was inappropriate, providing a specific example of the dish or the nature of the complaint would have strengthened the response. The letter covers the requirements well enough to be clear, but further elaboration would move this into a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'However', and 'For future meeting' to link your ideas. While the structure is coherent, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points of the letter. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'the above issues') is used consistently to maintain a smooth progression of ideas throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'organized', 'satisfied', 'supportive', and 'consideration'. However, there are some noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'service provide' (should be 'provided') and 'meet was not fresh' (should be 'meat'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do show a lack of precision. Expanding your vocabulary to include more specific descriptors for food quality or service standards would help you achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'service provide' instead of 'service provided', 'They complaint' instead of 'They complained', and 'you that you check' (repetition). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article usage issues. While these errors are frequent, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for repeated words or missing suffixes, which will help increase the accuracy of your writing.
