Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are doing well. I have been thinking about the feedback we have received from our clients who attended the meeting.

They all were happy about the location as it was conveniently accessible. Along with meeting, they also enjoyed the sunset view from terrace of the hotel. On the top of that, in their feedback, they really appreciated the friendly nature of staff.

Unfortunately, some guests were unsatisfied with food. We organized both vegetarian and non vegetarian food but the hotel management did mistake and forgot to prepare the vegetarian one. Due to the fact that our guests faced problem and we ordered some dishes from outside at a moment. Furthermore, handful participants showed concern about spices too.

In my opinion, from next time we have to keep few things in our mind while doing preparations. Firstly, along with the meeting setup we should take care of food too. We cannot depend fully on hotel staff. As I was the only person who was organizing all things so I personally believe that task should be divided among people to make sure things going well.

Yours Sincerely,

Rimple Sharma

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You clearly identified the positive aspects of the hotel (location, view, staff), explained the issue with the missing vegetarian meal and the spice levels, and provided a suggestion for future improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that your suggestions for the manager are more directly related to the hotel's responsibilities rather than focusing on your own internal task delegation, as the prompt asks what the manager should do to improve the food.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Unfortunately', 'Furthermore', and 'Firstly' to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by slightly awkward phrasing, such as 'On the top of that' and 'from next time'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence. The paragraphing is appropriate for the task type.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'conveniently accessible' and 'showed concern' are used correctly. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'did mistake' (should be 'made a mistake') and 'handful participants' (should be 'a handful of participants'). Additionally, 'at a moment' is not a standard idiomatic expression. Expanding your range to include more precise collocations would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as missing articles ('the food', 'the vegetarian one'), incorrect preposition usage ('from next time'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('They all were happy'). Some sentences are slightly fragmented or awkward, such as 'Due to the fact that our guests faced problem and we ordered some dishes from outside at a moment.' Focusing on article usage and sentence structure accuracy will help improve your score.
