Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am Amit Patel, working as assistant manager at Global Website. I am writing this letter to give my genuine opinion about your restaurant and services.
Last week, I organized meetings which took place whole day at your hotel. My all colleagues was impressed by the infrastructure and interior because it provides natural view because of its paintings and designs. Apart from this, each member appreciate customer services that you offered. The one thing that most complained was food as it too spicy and oily. Additionally, there are not enough varieties of cuisines that makes every individual to grab only those. Many of our employees are from different cultures and they have their own choices for food. Due to limited menu, there were not able to ger proper lunch and that makes me unhappy as I was the in charge.
I would be grateful if you make some changes in your menu and improve spice and oil management because I really want to arrange upcoming meetings as well as get to gather in your restaurant.
I look forward to hear from you soon.
Yours Faithfully,
Amit Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: you mentioned the positive aspects of the hotel, explained the issues with the lunch, and provided suggestions for improvement. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the food was 'too spicy and oily,' expanding slightly on how this affected the participants' ability to focus during the afternoon session would have strengthened the response. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader is left in no doubt about your requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Apart from this,' 'Additionally,' and 'Due to,' which assist in linking your ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by minor errors in referencing and sentence structure, such as 'The one thing that most complained was food.' Improving the transition between sentences would make the text feel more cohesive. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the body of the complaint, and the conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant business-related terms like 'assistant manager' and 'infrastructure.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'get to gather' (should be 'get-together') and 'spice and oil management' (which sounds unnatural). Additionally, there are minor errors in word forms, such as 'there were not able to ger' (should be 'they were not able to get'). Expanding your range of collocations would help you achieve a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('My all colleagues was impressed') and missing articles or prepositions ('The one thing that most complained was food'). There are also some tense inconsistencies and spelling errors, such as 'ger' instead of 'get.' While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of your writing.
