Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter to share some feedback regarding the event which my company organised at your hotel a few days ago.
Firstly, majority of the employees were delighted to receive your services during the town hall at Taj hotel in Bangalore. Staff friendly and welcoming nature was highly regarded. Additionally, lighting and balloons decorations inside and outside the hotel, made everyone of us to feel like real celebration. Also, sitting arrangements and all the meeting set up was well organised without any further distraction throughout the event.
However, many were little upset with the food taste and limited menu. There were only minimum recipes for one to choose and also food which served to all the employees was cold. Therefore, most of the food went waste and many left the place without consuming their meal.
Finally, I would request you to advise certain improvements like adding more recipes, and checking temperatures of the food before it served to others will definitely improve the reputation of the hotel.
I hope these issues will be alleviated on our next visit.
Yours faithfully,
Anjali Reddy

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state what was liked (staff, decor, and setup), explain the issues with the food (cold, limited menu), and provide suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, instead of just saying the food was cold, you could briefly mention the impact this had on the professional atmosphere of the meeting. Overall, the task is fully addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a polite closing. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Additionally', 'However', and 'Finally' to guide the reader. While the structure is sound, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that pronouns clearly refer back to the intended nouns. For example, in the second paragraph, 'food which served' is slightly awkward; a smoother transition would be 'the food that was served'.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, such as 'alleviated', 'reputation', and 'distraction'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation that prevent a higher score. For example, you use 'recipes' when you likely mean 'dishes' or 'menu options'. Additionally, 'made everyone of us to feel like real celebration' is grammatically and lexically awkward. Focusing on more natural collocations—such as 'a wide variety of dishes' instead of 'more recipes'—would significantly enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. For instance, 'majority of the employees' should be 'the majority of the employees', and 'Staff friendly and welcoming nature' should be 'The staff's friendly and welcoming nature'. There are also issues with article usage and verb forms, such as 'food which served' instead of 'food which was served'. These errors are frequent but do not impede communication, which is consistent with a Band 6 level.
