Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
First of all, I would like to appreciate your support and co-operation in organising an important meeting in your hostel. The reason of writing this letter would be to share the feedback with you, which I just received from the attendees. I would be happy to share with you that the participents really liked you hotel, especially the management and standarded services.
With that, many of them also complained about the food. According to them, the food was cold and tastless. The candidates were upset especially about the tea. For them, the tea is the essential and integral part of their diet. However, that was not upto the their standards.
Therefore, I would like to request you to look into this, and take appropriate action. I would suggest, you should change you catering company and hire new one.
I am looking forward to a postive response from you and hope that matter will be taken care on priority basis.
Yours sincerely,
Ayaz

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully identified what was liked (management and services), explained the dissatisfaction with the food (cold, tasteless, and poor tea quality), and provided a suggestion for improvement (changing the catering company). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on the impact of the poor food on the meeting's success, which would help to further develop your ideas and provide a more persuasive argument for the manager.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which aids readability. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'With that', and 'Therefore' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that transitions between the positive feedback and the negative feedback feel more natural rather than abrupt.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'co-operation', 'attendees', and 'integral part'. However, there are several spelling errors and word-choice inaccuracies, such as 'hostel' instead of 'hotel', 'standarded' instead of 'standard', and 'tastless'. Additionally, 'candidates' is used incorrectly to refer to meeting participants. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they do limit the precision of your writing. Focusing on proofreading for common spelling mistakes will help improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'The reason of writing' (should be 'The reason for writing'), 'upto the their standards' (incorrect article usage), and 'taken care on priority basis' (missing 'a'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are minor errors with commas. To achieve a higher band, aim for more error-free sentences and ensure that prepositions and articles are used consistently and accurately.
