Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this email to provide feedback regarding our experience at your reputed hotel on August 18th, 2026 during our company's meeting. Although it was an all-day meeting, all the participants praised how comfortably they could attend it because the conference room was quite spacious. Since the room was equipped with all the facilities required such as a projector, a clear sound system, and cushioned chairs, we could finish our meeting without any interruptions.

However, the majority of attendees were quite disappointed with the food served during the lunch. As we had some people with special dietary requests, the absence of labels to differentiate the food items was unacceptable from such a renowned hotel. On the top of that, the entrees were served alongwith starters due to which the most of our food got cold.

Considering the above situation, I would recommend you to arrange these kind of events personally with more attention to ensure faster service without compromising the food quality. Moreover, the special dietary needs should be handled with a lot more attention.

I hope that you will take this feedback positively and will improve these mistakes during our next event.

Kinds Regards,

Jashan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly identified the positive aspects of the hotel, such as the spacious conference room and facilities. You also explained the issues with the food, specifically the lack of dietary labels and the poor service timing. Finally, you provided constructive suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more detail on how the manager might improve the food quality specifically, rather than just general service, but the task requirements are fully met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing specific points, and a professional closing. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the praise from the complaints and the suggestions. You use cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'Since', 'However', and 'Moreover' to link ideas effectively. The progression of ideas is smooth and easy to follow. The letter follows a standard formal structure, and the flow between sentences is natural, making the communication very clear and professional throughout the entire piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for a formal business letter, using terms like 'reputed', 'unacceptable', and 'dietary requests'. There are a few minor collocation issues, such as 'arrange these kind of events' (should be 'this kind of event') and 'improve these mistakes' (usually 'rectify these issues'). However, these do not impede communication. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message with precision and a professional tone. Expanding your use of more sophisticated collocations would help move this into the higher band range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most sentences are error-free and easy to read. There are a few minor grammatical slips, such as 'alongwith' (should be 'along with'), 'the most of our food' (should be 'most of our food'), and 'these kind of events' (should be 'this kind of event'). These are occasional errors and do not affect the clarity of your writing. Your control over punctuation and sentence construction is generally strong, supporting the overall professional tone of the letter.
