Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/Madam,

Purpose:- Feedback about the food that was served for lunch.

My company recently organized an all-day meeting for our company, which took place in your hotel. our participants had a great time with us. we discussed about our upcoming deals and events alot. They really liked your hotel because of the eye-catching interior and about the Apart from it, you have such a wonderful stuff.

On the other side, They were unhappy about the food. They mentioned that it was not served on time as well as dishes were stale. They didnot like the quality. After our long discussion they all were starving and excited about the lunch menue but your they were all disappointed.

Moving further, I have a suggestion for you to improve the food in future which you can start serving snacks in the beggining so atleast visitors can manage their cravings and will not rush you and themselves. Apart from it, instead of serving a full packed plate, I thin you should focus on quality over quantity.

I hope your team will take it as a positive feedback.

I look forward to hear from you.

Your faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: the positive aspects of the hotel, the issues with the food, and suggestions for improvement. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the inclusion of a 'Purpose' heading is unnecessary in a standard letter format. The ideas are relevant, but the development is somewhat limited; for instance, the suggestion to serve snacks is a good idea, but could be explained with more detail regarding how it would solve the specific problem of stale food. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the development of ideas could be more sophisticated to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the other side' and 'Moving further' to transition between ideas. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or unnatural. Additionally, there are some issues with referencing and sentence flow, such as the incomplete sentence 'and about the Apart from it' in the first paragraph. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows logically into the next would enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, using terms like 'eye-catching', 'starving', and 'cravings'. However, there are some errors in word choice and collocation that slightly hinder the natural flow. For example, you used 'wonderful stuff' when you likely meant 'wonderful staff'. Additionally, 'menue' is misspelled, and 'full packed plate' is not a standard collocation. To improve, focus on using more precise vocabulary and checking for common spelling errors and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including punctuation issues (e.g., 'we discussed about our upcoming deals and events alot'), capitalization errors (e.g., 'our participants'), and subject-verb agreement issues. The phrase 'I look forward to hear from you' is also grammatically incorrect; it should be 'I look forward to hearing from you'. These errors occur frequently enough to be noticeable, although they do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points.
