Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I recently planned a day long meeting on 3rd August 2026 at your hotel for my company. I received many feedback from our participants which I would like to share and I believe that this will also help you prepare for other events wisely.
Firstly, all the attendees liked the overall ambience of the hotel. They were quite impressed by the hospitality and management of the staff members. "The decoration was astonishing" they said. The photo booth setup was quite innovative move, where all the team members got a photo which made their experience memorable. With that being said, I would like to share comments regarding the provided meal.
Participants described the food quality as "an unpleasant experience with taste of food". They said that the food was cold and one of the attendee noticed that the meat was uncooked. This was big health concern and many of our participants skipped the meal.
I would recommend to maintain the quality standards and train the chefs in order to have a positive overall experience. I hope you take this as a constructive criticism and not the other way around.
Kind Regards,
Arpit

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly identified the positive aspects of the hotel, explained the specific issues with the food (cold temperature and undercooked meat), and provided a constructive suggestion for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. To reach a higher band, ensure that your opening and closing are fully integrated into the flow of the letter. Your ideas are relevant and well-developed, providing a clear picture of the situation for the hotel manager.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'With that being said', and 'In order to', which help link your sentences. However, the transition between the positive feedback and the complaint could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, and the overall structure is coherent throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'overall ambience', 'innovative move', and 'constructive criticism' are used effectively. There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'I received many feedback' (should be 'much feedback' or 'a lot of feedback') and 'big health concern' (should be 'a major health concern'). Despite these minor inaccuracies, the vocabulary is adequate for the task and does not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are some grammatical slips, such as 'one of the attendee' (should be 'attendees') and 'not the other way around' (which is slightly informal for this context). Punctuation is generally handled well, though the placement of quotation marks around phrases could be more natural. The majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control of grammar is sufficient to maintain a professional tone throughout the letter.
