Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

Recently, I booked your local hotel for my companies all- day meeting. I am writing this letter to give you the feedback about our visit.

Every Single Participant of the meeting appreciated the hotel and all of arrangements. I personally loved your meeting lounge with the comfortable chairs, quality of the projector. Even the gym and park was also so good.

The only thing that disappointments me and my team was the food and menu as it has very little options . Honestly, the food was not tasty and was not served properly. The food was cold and we had to wait a long time. Even the individual was specific additions and changes and still some of them was undone.

You should try to make some changes with the food service like fasting speed, serving hot and delicious food. You can even make some changes with the menu and add some more items.

I hope you will review my feedback nd make some required changes.

Kind regards,

Gunveer Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly stated what the participants liked (the lounge, projector, and gym), explained the issues with the food (lack of options, poor quality, and slow service), and provided constructive suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. To improve, ensure that your explanations are slightly more detailed; for instance, when mentioning that specific requests were ignored, you could briefly clarify what those requests were to add more weight to your complaint. Overall, the task is fully addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter follows a logical structure with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Even the gym' and 'The only thing', to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition'). Some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the connection between the final suggestion and the closing sentence could be smoother to enhance the overall progression of the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using words like 'appreciated', 'disappointments', and 'individual'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'fasting speed' (which is confusing in this context) and 'my companies all-day meeting' (missing an apostrophe). You also use 'individual' incorrectly when referring to dietary requests. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that your word choices are contextually accurate. Expanding your range to include more sophisticated synonyms for common words will also help improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'all of arrangements' (missing 'the'), 'some of them was undone' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'disappointments me' (incorrect verb form). Additionally, there are punctuation issues, such as the missing apostrophe in 'companies' and the typo 'nd'. While these errors do not prevent the message from being understood, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and basic proofreading for small errors will significantly improve your writing.
