Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to provide you with a feedback for a one-day meeting that I organized at your hotel 'Taj Skyline' on 21st August 2026. The participants at the meeting were impressed with the interior of your hotel however, they expressed a disappointment about the food that was served for lunch.

To begin with, all the attendees praised the interior of you hotel as well as the arrangements that you had made for the conference were excellent. Usually, hotels provide only few microphones for a conference meeting but you provided 10 microphones for 20 people so that they do not have to keep passing it during the meeting. They also mentioned that the seating arrangement was perfect and the hall was big enough to fit 20 attendees.

However, most of them complained about the food. They were unhappy because the vegetarian and non vegetarian food was served on the same counter. I specially requested to serve it on different counters but that was not the case. To add to it, there were very less food options for vegetarian food and it was served cold.

To improve the food service in future, I would suggest you to make sure that the vegetarian and non vegetarian food is served on separate counters. You must also add more veg options like sandwiches and burgers as well as try to serve warm food.

I hope you will take my feedback positively and improve your food service in future.

Yours faithfully,

Alex White

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly identified the positive aspects of the hotel, explained the specific issues regarding the food service, and provided constructive suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager, and the purpose is clear from the outset. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the task requirements. To reach a higher band, ensure that all minor grammatical slips do not distract from the clarity of your points, but overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a polite closing. You use transition signals such as 'To begin with', 'However', and 'To add to it' to guide the reader through your arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, some cohesive devices are slightly repetitive or mechanical. Improving the variety of linking phrases would enhance the overall cohesion of the text, but the current structure is logical and easy to follow throughout.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'conference', 'arrangements', and 'participants' correctly. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'provide a feedback' (should be 'provide feedback') and 'very less' (should be 'very few'). While you successfully convey your message, the vocabulary is somewhat functional. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid basic errors in word choice. The current range is sufficient to communicate your points clearly without any impediment to the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'Usually, hotels provide only few microphones... but you provided 10 microphones...'. There are some recurring grammatical errors, including article usage ('the interior of you hotel') and subject-verb agreement or phrasing ('there were very less food options'). Despite these errors, your meaning is always clear, and the mistakes do not impede communication. To move to a higher band, focus on proofreading for small errors like missing articles and incorrect quantifiers, and aim for more consistent control over complex sentence forms.
