Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope this letter finds you well. This is Abhishek Varma senior chairman of Van-zek corporation. We recently organized an all-day event at your hotel. I Would like to thank you and your staff for providing such proffesional service and exceptional dedication for our special event.

The event was very important for our company's future. The meeting hall was equiped with all the necessary devices along with technical support team that was beyond our expectation. The staff members were very co-operative and proffesional. However, there is only one concern which I like to draw your attention. The food made by the chef's was very authentic and soulful. While finalizing the menue we already discussed that there are many people who prefere vegan food. There were very few vegan options available. As our company is looking forward to organize future events at your hotel only. We wanted to make sure this area could be improved and you will take it as a feedback.

Thank you for the wonderful experince. Looking forward to receive a positive response from your side.

Warm Regards,

Abhishek.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: you mentioned the positive aspects of the hotel, explained the issue with the food, and provided a suggestion for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the explanation regarding the food is slightly contradictory; you describe the food as 'authentic and soulful' but then immediately state that there were 'very few vegan options'. This makes the complaint feel somewhat inconsistent. To improve, ensure your ideas are clearly linked to the specific problem so the reader understands exactly why the participants were unhappy.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the positive feedback from the complaint. You use some cohesive devices like 'However' and 'While', which help the flow of ideas. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences more fluidly, as some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Additionally, ensure that referencing (e.g., 'this area') clearly points back to the specific issue mentioned previously.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Words like 'professional', 'dedication', and 'co-operative' are used correctly. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'proffesional' (professional), 'equiped' (equipped), 'menue' (menu), 'prefere' (prefer), and 'experince' (experience). These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, focus on proofreading your work to catch these common spelling mistakes and try to incorporate more precise collocations to enhance the professional tone of your correspondence.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'This is Abhishek Varma senior chairman' (missing article), 'the chef's' (incorrect plural possessive), and 'I like to draw' (should be 'would like'). Additionally, the sentence 'As our company is looking forward to organize future events at your hotel only' is a sentence fragment. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your complex sentences are grammatically complete.
