Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I hope your are doing well. I am writing for the feedback of the today's visit. First of all, thank you to manage the all-day meeting today. If i start from the parking, the parking space was good enough to park all cars. Additionally, the reception staff were really good and were ready to help in professional manner. My staff really liked the location as they found it convenience and the peaceful environment of the meeting room.

Although, some of the staff members were not happy about the lunch today as they found very short variety of food. Moreover, the food trays were not cleaned enough and servers delayed in serving the food as well.

I would strongly advise to bring a good variety of food in the future. Also, the food servers should be trained enough to manage time and maintain a good standard of hygiene.

I hope this feedback will be taken under consideration to match the standard with the hotel.

Regards,

AK

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You clearly identified the positive aspects of the hotel, such as the parking and reception staff, explained the issues with the lunch service, and provided constructive suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, you could have elaborated on how the lack of variety specifically impacted the meeting participants. Overall, the task requirements are fully met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices like 'First of all', 'Additionally', and 'Moreover' to link your ideas. However, the flow is occasionally slightly mechanical. Some transitions, such as 'Although, some of the staff members...', are grammatically awkward as 'Although' is a subordinating conjunction and should not start a sentence in this manner. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words would help the text flow more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'professional manner', 'peaceful environment', and 'taken under consideration'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'thank you to manage' (should be 'thank you for managing') and 'found it convenience' (should be 'convenient'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate that your control over less common lexical items is still developing. Expanding your range of collocations would improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'I hope your are doing well' (typo), 'thank you to manage' (incorrect verb form), and 'servers delayed in serving' (awkward phrasing). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure in the second paragraph is slightly repetitive. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions and verb forms after specific expressions.
