Write a letter to the manager of the hotel. In your letter
- say what the participants liked about the hotel
- explain why they were unhappy about the food
- suggest what the manager should do to improve the food in future
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir
i am writing this letter to thank you for the wonderful arrangement of conference meeting and also express my dissatisfaction for the food served because it was not delicious and was not as expected by the participants.
The conference room was neatly organized. the chairs were put at proper distance and the welcoming of the guests was properly executed. However, the food served was not enjoyed by the participants. They liked only the starters ,while they were totally dissatisfied by the main course. The biryani was quiet soggy and it didn't hit the flavours well, additionally the desserts were also not that sweet as it should be.
I am extremely satisfied about your ambience, hospitality and the way managed the crowd of our participants. I would suggest you to change the chef and hire some professional and experienced chefs for large caterings. This will help you to enhance the taste or may be that was not your day. It will be helpful for me to book future conference meetings. Hopefully you will take this into consideration and do the needy.
thanking you.
yours faithfully,
R.Rupa

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: you mentioned the positive aspects of the hotel, explained the issues with the food, and provided a suggestion for improvement. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although it slips slightly into informal territory at times (e.g., 'do the needy'). The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, covering the requirements of the prompt effectively. To reach a higher band, ensure that the suggestions for improvement are more detailed and professional in tone, and maintain a consistent formal register throughout the entire piece.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use some cohesive devices like 'However' and 'additionally' to connect ideas. However, the paragraphing is inconsistent, and some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The use of punctuation is also problematic, particularly with spacing and capitalization (e.g., 'the chairs were put...'). Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring standard paragraph indentation and spacing would significantly enhance the readability and logical progression of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'dissatisfaction', 'ambience', and 'hospitality'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'didn't hit the flavours well' and 'do the needy', which is an idiom that does not fit this context. There are also minor spelling and capitalization errors (e.g., 'quiet' instead of 'quite'). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure that your vocabulary choices remain formal and professional throughout the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. For example, there are issues with article usage ('the welcoming of the guests'), subject-verb agreement, and capitalization at the start of sentences. Additionally, some phrasing is awkward, such as 'the way managed the crowd'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and sentence structure would be highly beneficial.
