Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I hope you're doing well i am writing this to share the employee reviews regarding the event organised last week at your grand hotel.

The atmosphere inside the main hall was peaceful, carefully planned and staff had taken better care of everything. Moreover, the entrance was well designed and organised as it created the welcoming behaviour for all visitors. The appreciation award segment at the end of gathering really created a wonderful experience which had been enjoyed by all.

However, there were some concerns regarding food and its quality. The food was not served on time and varieties were limited which means not to cater to everyone's preferences.

Some also mentioned missing proper refreshments during parties .

I would kindly request that by addressing these little concerns can make a positive experience. It would be helpful if some extra vegetarian options can be added to cater everyone taste.

Warm regards,

Sukhpal,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You successfully identified the positive aspects of the hotel, explained the issues with the food, and provided a suggestion for improvement. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, while you mention the food was not served on time, expanding slightly on the impact this had on the meeting schedule would have strengthened the response. Overall, the task is fully addressed, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'In addition' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally a bit mechanical. For example, the transition in the final paragraph could be smoother; the phrase 'by addressing these little concerns can make a positive experience' is grammatically awkward and disrupts the logical flow. Despite this, the progression of ideas is easy to follow, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'atmosphere', 'preferences', and 'refreshments'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'welcoming behaviour' (which sounds unnatural in this context) and 'missing proper refreshments during parties' (the event was a meeting, not a party). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. Attempting to use more specific collocations related to hospitality or event management would improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'i am writing' (capitalization), 'varieties were limited which means not to cater' (incorrect verb form), and 'by addressing these little concerns can make' (redundant subject). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing and capitalization after periods. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and sentence structure consistency will help improve your accuracy.
