Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: the positive aspects of the hotel, the issues with the lunch, and suggestions for improvement. However, the tone is inconsistent and informal (e.g., 'Hy there', 'apply this formula'), which is inappropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are present but lack the development required for a higher band. For instance, the explanation of why the food was poor is limited to 'stail and flavourless', and the suggestion for improvement is somewhat vague. To improve, ensure the tone is professional and provide more specific details to support your points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter lacks clear paragraphing, which is essential for a formal letter. The ideas are presented in a somewhat disjointed manner, making the progression of the argument difficult to follow. There is a lack of cohesive devices; sentences are often linked by simple conjunctions or are just placed next to each other without logical transitions. To improve, use clear paragraph breaks for each section of the letter (introduction, body paragraphs for each bullet point, and conclusion) and incorporate linking words such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition' to connect your ideas more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and contains several spelling errors, such as 'stail' (stale), 'disscus' (discuss), 'eny' (any), and 'advise' (advice). The phrasing is often unnatural or grammatically incorrect, such as 'every thing on mark' and 'refund your money back of lunch'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas or maintain a formal tone. To improve, focus on learning correct spellings and common collocations used in professional correspondence, and try to use more precise adjectives to describe your experience.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with verb tense ('I organise' instead of 'I organised'), missing articles, and incorrect sentence structure. The punctuation is also inconsistent, with many sentences lacking proper full stops or commas. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of tenses. Proofreading for basic punctuation and spelling errors would also significantly improve the clarity of your writing.
