Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt: you mentioned the positive aspects of the hotel, explained the issues with the food, and suggested improvements. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding the food being 'raw' and the staff not wearing gloves is clear, but the suggestion for improvement is quite brief and lacks detail. To achieve a higher band, you should expand on your suggestions—perhaps by recommending a change in catering staff or a review of food safety protocols—to provide a more comprehensive and professional response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'However' and 'Commencing with', which are appropriate for a formal letter. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes hindered by grammatical errors, such as 'our face number of issues' and 'the most prominent is the hygienic'. Improving the transition between your ideas and ensuring that referencing is accurate will help your writing feel more natural and cohesive. The structure is functional but could be more sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of incorrect word choice and word form errors. For example, you use 'hygienic' as a noun instead of 'hygiene', and 'ceremony' is likely not the best fit for a business meeting. Additionally, 'non-vegetarian staff member' is slightly confusing in this context. To improve, focus on using words in their correct grammatical form and selecting more precise terminology for a professional setting. Expanding your range of collocations will also help you express your complaints more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'our face number of issues' (should be 'we faced a number of issues'), 'the decoration the style of hotel decoration same as the western one' (which is fragmented), and 'it does not prepare well' (should be 'it was not prepared well'). While you attempt some complex structures, they are often inaccurate. You need to focus on subject-verb agreement, correct tense usage, and sentence construction to ensure your meaning is conveyed accurately and professionally.
