Write a letter to the manager of the hotel. In your letter
- say what the participants liked about the hotel
- explain why they were unhappy about the food
- suggest what the manager should do to improve the food in future
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this letter to give feedback for our company's last visit to your hotel for the meeting.
There are several reasons why we found your hotel more profound. Firstly, the hospitality over there was so welcoming, whole staff was taking care of each and everything we needed. Secondly, there are many amenities available at hotel, for example gym, swimming pool, park for children, which is making it more attractive.
However, participants at the meeting were unhappy about the food which was served for lunch. They were saying that the food served in lunch was not of good quality and also the waiting period was too long for that. They have not received some of the food items which they have actually ordered.
I would like to suggest that you must check the qualities of all the raw materials like vegetables and sauces before making food. Additionally, you can hire more staff for lunch period as it is busy out there over that period of time. Lastly, you should encourage staff to always double check the order and making sure that customers have received right order.
Thank you for your time and support.
Yours Truly,
Dhruti Panchal

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You clearly identified the positive aspects of the hotel, explained the issues with the lunch service, and provided constructive suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, when mentioning the food quality, you could briefly specify what was wrong (e.g., cold, undercooked) to provide more concrete detail. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'However', and 'Additionally' to link your ideas. While these are effective, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking phrases or more sophisticated transitions to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. Referencing is generally clear, and the overall progression of the letter is logical and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. Phrases like 'hospitality', 'amenities', and 'raw materials' are used correctly. However, there are some instances of slightly unnatural word choices, such as 'found your hotel more profound' (which is not the correct context for 'profound') and 'busy out there'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more varied and sophisticated lexical items would help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'whole staff was taking care' (should be 'the whole staff'), 'for example gym' (needs an article: 'such as a gym'), and 'making sure that customers have received right order' (missing article: 'the right order'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, pay closer attention to article usage and subject-verb agreement. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help elevate your score in this criterion.
