Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
Hope this email finds you well. I am writing to express disappointment regarding the food that was served for lunch in a local hotel where we had company meeting.
Firstly, I would like say that the participants were very happy for the services which provided by hotel, such as neat and clean sitting area, and well-organized meeting room.
Unfortunately, some people did not like the food. As I specially mentioned to the hotel manager to provide vegan food. Despite informing him, they were continuously serving non vegan food. In our team, nobody like to eat non-vegetarian food, and most of them did not eat anything because of that unwanted food.
I would really appreciate it, if you could sent a notice to the hotel manager regarding this concern. Therefore, in future we do not face any kind of food related issue. Additionally, we could also request a refund or compensation for food.
Thank you for giving attention to this matter, and hope to hear from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Poonam

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You clearly identified the positive aspects of the hotel, explained the issue regarding the non-vegan food, and provided a suggestion for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. To reach a higher band, ensure that your explanation of the problem is more precise; for instance, you mention 'some people' were unhappy, but clarifying the impact on the event's success would further develop your ideas. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure with clear paragraphing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Unfortunately', and 'Additionally' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing is always clear. For example, in the second paragraph, the transition between the hotel's services and the food issue is functional but could be more sophisticated. The overall progression of ideas is easy to follow, which is a key requirement for this band.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'disappointment', 'compensation', and 'well-organized'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'happy for the services which provided by hotel' (should be 'happy with the services provided by the hotel') and 'sent a notice' (should be 'send a notice'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and prepositions to reach the higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'I would like say' (missing 'to'), 'nobody like to eat' (should be 'likes'), and 'if you could sent' (should be 'send'). These errors are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of modal verbs. Despite these errors, your control of basic sentence structures is sufficient to convey your message without causing confusion for the reader.
