Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter with the intention of resolving things amicably. yesterday, we visited your hotel for our office meeting with our staff and manager. The experience was fruitful, expact one thing.
Undoubtely, your staff created welcoming environment, not only for us but also for every customer who visited. They navigate us toward our booked table with smile and positive gesture. Before start our meeting every member of our group was really impressed by the wooden furniture of your hotel that represent traditional art. Although, separate washroom for men and women and parking space just front of the hotel was good enough. That was enough for us to start our office discus
However, when we just wrapped up our discussion, this was the time when lunch started serve. We ordered Italian grilled pasta with fruit juice. The presentation of our plates appriciated, but when it's time to start took bite, the experience was awful. The taste of pasta was like overcooked and it was too spicy. And juice taste was watery.
I would really appriciate if you change your chef and hired a professional italian chef.
Thank you

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: mentioning the positive aspects of the hotel, explaining the issues with the lunch, and providing a suggestion for improvement. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although it could be more professional. The ideas are relevant, but the development is somewhat limited. For example, your suggestion to 'change your chef' is quite blunt and could be expanded to include more constructive feedback, such as requesting a review of the menu or quality control procedures. Overall, the response covers the requirements of the task well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However' and 'Although', to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing and minor errors in sentence structure, such as 'Before start our meeting' or 'this was the time when lunch started serve'. The paragraphing is clear, but the transition between the positive feedback and the complaint could be smoother to improve the overall readability of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'amicably', 'fruitful', and 'presentation'. However, there are several spelling errors ('expact', 'Undoubtely', 'appriciated', 'appriciate') and some awkward collocations, such as 'start took bite' and 'juice taste was watery'. While these errors do not prevent the message from being understood, they do indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of precise vocabulary to reach a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'They navigate us' (tense error), 'Before start our meeting' (missing preposition/gerund), and 'lunch started serve' (missing passive voice). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization at the start of sentences. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors suggests that you need to focus on subject-verb agreement, verb tenses, and sentence construction to improve your accuracy.
