Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Adam Sir,

I am writing this letter in order to provide you with feedback regarding the recent company meeting organized at your hotel.

Considering the expectations, the guests liked the service of the staff as they were welcomed at the gate. Moreover, the welcome drink and starters served to the guests were also appreciated. The ambience of the hotel was fascinating that the guests liked most about it.

In terms of expectations, as heard about the popularity of the hotel, the experience regarding the food was unlikely dissatisfied. Furthermore, they served the food before the guests were sitted on tables, so it was cold. Additionally, there was an inconsistency in the taste that all of them did not like about it. The staff needed to be informed to replace the empty trays, which is very unprofessional.

Without a doubt, management should improve the service by making multiple changes. For instance, Quality analysis, verify items, trained employees. This will affect in the quality of service.

Thank you for taking the time to review my concern. Hope to hear from you after the suggested updates.

Yours sincerely,

Meet patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: the positive aspects of the hotel, the issues with the lunch, and suggestions for improvement. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening salutation 'Dear Adam Sir' is non-standard. The ideas are relevant, but the development is somewhat thin. For instance, the suggestions for improvement are presented as a list of nouns ('Quality analysis, verify items') rather than fully developed sentences, which limits the clarity of the advice. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is explained with more depth and that the tone remains consistently professional throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the task. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'Additionally' helps to guide the reader through the text. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the connection between ideas within the final paragraph is weak due to the fragmented nature of the suggestions. The referencing is generally clear, and the overall progression of the letter is easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a coherent response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate the main points effectively. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'ambience' and 'fascinating', though 'fascinating' is not the most natural collocation for a hotel setting. Some word choices are imprecise, such as 'unlikely dissatisfied' and 'verify items', which slightly hinder the precision of the message. While the range is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, more precise and natural collocations would improve the quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The letter uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'before the guests were sitted' (should be 'seated'), 'This will affect in the quality' (should be 'affect the quality'), and 'the experience... was unlikely dissatisfied'. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the message. Punctuation is generally handled well, but the sentence fragments in the third paragraph reduce the overall grammatical control. A greater focus on verb forms and prepositional usage would help improve the accuracy of the writing.
