Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear sir/mam

Hy I hope are you doing well .I am a raj I just want to write a letter related with over react experience.

We recently organized an all day meeting in your hotel related with company. When we visit over all participants at the meeting are so happy because they really liked the hotel they liked you managing things and materials which organized in the hotel but I want to say they just complained about something that I want to explain.

Participants are not happy with the food because they dont like it when they eat it they dont like the taste according to the hotel looks so I think some changes need to be taken related with the food service because most of the people like to eat when they visit to the hotel for example need to increase taste of food or add more items on that so its increase the customer choices.

At the end we all really like your hotel but just try to improve these change otherwise every thing is perfect .

Your sincerely

Raj

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt: it mentions the positive aspects of the hotel, explains the dissatisfaction with the lunch, and offers suggestions for improvement. However, the development of these ideas is quite basic. For instance, the explanation of why the food was unsatisfactory is vague ('they dont like the taste'), and the suggestions for improvement lack specific detail. The tone is also inconsistent with a formal letter to a manager, appearing more like an informal email. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your ideas with more descriptive language and maintain a professional, formal tone throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The letter is divided into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is very limited and often mechanical. There is a lack of linking words to connect ideas smoothly between sentences. For example, the transition between the positive feedback and the complaint is abrupt. The referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'related with over react experience'. Improving the use of transition signals like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'however' would significantly improve the flow and logical progression of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You rely on basic words like 'happy', 'like', and 'things'. There are also several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choices, such as 'over react experience' instead of 'recent experience' and 'related with' used repeatedly where 'regarding' or 'concerning' would be more appropriate. To improve, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary related to hospitality and professional feedback, and pay closer attention to collocations to ensure your word choices sound natural in a formal context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('participants... are so happy'), tense consistency, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or lack proper punctuation, such as 'Hy I hope are you doing well'. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct punctuation and verb tenses, before attempting more complex structures. Proofreading for basic errors like 'sir/mam' (which should be 'Sir or Madam') is also essential.
