Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I want to give feedback for the 17th Aug all day-meeting which was organised for my company and dissatisfaction for the food which was served during this meeting.

The meeting was organised well and conference room was having good ambience , centre table was big enough and chair were very comfortable. The meeting were presented through a projector and quality and sound of projectors was very good.

But the participants were not satisfied with lunch food quality and were complaining about the food was cold and even not cooked properly and too much spicy and oily. Many participants even not eat the food and who eats the food and specially the vegetable burger were feeling more gas issues in tummy and headaches.

I would like to give some recommendations, do not use more spice and oily in the foods as its not good for health and now a days everyone following a healthy and balanced food in their diet.

I will also request to reimbursement of the lunch bill as it was eaten by very few participants.

Yours sincerely,

Steve Jennings

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You successfully identified the positive aspects of the hotel, explained the issues with the food, and provided suggestions for improvement. However, the tone is somewhat inconsistent for a formal letter of complaint. While the content is relevant, the development of ideas is slightly limited; for instance, the description of the food issues is a bit repetitive and informal (e.g., 'gas issues in tummy'). To reach a higher band, ensure that the tone remains professional throughout and that the suggestions are presented with more sophisticated language.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the task. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. Transitions between sentences are often abrupt, and there is a lack of variety in linking words. For example, the transition between the positive aspects of the hotel and the negative feedback about the food is quite sudden. Improving the flow by using a wider range of cohesive devices, such as 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' or 'in light of this,' would significantly enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'gas issues in tummy' and 'everyone following a healthy and balanced food'. These phrases are not natural in a formal context. You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle with precise collocations. To improve, focus on learning more formal expressions suitable for business correspondence and avoid overly simplistic or colloquial descriptions when discussing professional matters.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'chair were very comfortable', 'meeting were presented'), article usage (e.g., 'the lunch bill' vs 'a reimbursement'), and awkward sentence construction. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. You should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly regarding pluralization and verb tense consistency, to ensure your writing is more polished and professional.
