Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to provide you detailed feedback on all-day meeting by my company which took place at your hotel under your management.

To begin with, we booked the conference hall for all-day meeting at the Taj Mahal Hotel on 15th August 2026. All of my colleagues really loved the warm ambience of the conference hall, it was relaxed yet stimulating. The technical assistance was provided throughout the meeting.

Moreover, we all were dissatisfied with the food service. The breakfast served by your team was so delicious and was served hot. The team was coordinated and were communicating with each other properly to ensure the service is efficient. But the dinner was served so late, the food was cold . There was lack of cleanliness near the food table.

In addition to, i would like to recommend some areas that really need your close attention. I noticed the lack of communication between team members, low standards of food quality and cleanliness. Team needs to be efficient to serve hot food on the table while ensuring its quality.

I am confident working on these particular areas will resolve this matter and regain our trust . We would love to consider your hotel in future again. Thankyou for your support throughout the meeting.

Yours faithfully,

Sukhdeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You clearly identified the positive aspects of the hotel, explained the issues with the food service, and provided constructive recommendations for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the prompt. To reach a higher band, ensure that the details provided are consistent; for example, you mentioned 'breakfast' and 'dinner' in a letter about an 'all-day meeting' lunch, which creates a slight confusion regarding the timeline of the event. Overall, the response is purposeful and fully covers the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You have used some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'In addition to' to connect your ideas. However, the transition between the positive feedback and the complaint could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is generally clear. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the referencing within paragraphs is tighter to avoid minor jumps in logic, such as the sudden shift from discussing the conference hall to the food service.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'ambience', 'stimulating', 'dissatisfied', and 'efficient'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'provide you detailed feedback' (should be 'provide you with') and 'In addition to, i would like' (should be 'In addition, I would like'). While you successfully convey your message, the vocabulary is somewhat functional. To achieve a higher score, incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. The spelling is generally accurate, and the language used is appropriate for a professional context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('all-day meeting by my company' should be 'an all-day meeting'), punctuation issues (comma splices in 'The dinner was served so late, the food was cold'), and minor preposition errors. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede the overall meaning of your letter. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will help you move into a higher band.
