You recently organised an all-day meeting for your company, which took place in a local hotel. In their feedback, participants at the meeting said that they liked the hotel, but they were unhappy about the food that was served for lunch.
Write a letter to the manager of the hotel. In your letter
- say what the participants liked about the hotel
- explain why they were unhappy about the food
- suggest what the manager should do to improve the food in future
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to give you a feedback for the event organized by my company in your hotel two weeks ago.
Everyone was very pleasant with the behaviour of the hotel staff and also, place was good for the official meeting. The meeting hall was quite spacious and air-conditioned as well as sitting arrangements were admirable. Apart from this, every equipment like projector, laptop and audio speaker were easy to use for everyone. Overall, everyone was happy with the hotel organization.
But, there was one thing that you need to improve and that is your food quality and service. The food was extremely cold and there was not labels on the food containers to differentiate the vegetarian, non veg dishes. That was looking unprofessional. Also, the food was not re-filled after once it served. So, you should tell your staff which kind of what temperature food should be served. Also, staff members should be on ground and fulfill the needed things. Also, always place the labels on food containers to avoid the unnecessary problems.
I would be really happy to arrange the upcoming event in your hotel after and I hope you would take my feedback into consideration.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly identified the positive aspects of the hotel, such as the staff and facilities, and provided specific reasons for the dissatisfaction regarding the food, including temperature and lack of labeling. The suggestions for improvement are relevant and practical. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To reach a higher band, ensure that the development of ideas is slightly more sophisticated; for instance, you could briefly mention the impact the poor lunch had on the overall success of the meeting to add more depth to your explanation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Apart from this' and 'Overall', though the transition between the second and third paragraph could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, although some sentences are slightly repetitive in structure. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph flows naturally into the next would strengthen the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'spacious', 'admirable', and 'unprofessional'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'give you a feedback' (should be 'give you feedback') and 'every equipment' (should be 'all the equipment'). Additionally, 'on ground' is not the most natural way to express that staff should be present. While these errors do not impede communication, expanding your range of topic-specific collocations would help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'everyone was very pleasant with the behaviour' (should be 'pleased with'), 'there was not labels' (should be 'there were no labels'), and 'which kind of what temperature food' (which is awkward and grammatically incorrect). While the meaning remains clear, these frequent minor errors in subject-verb agreement and phrasing prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic agreement and article usage would significantly improve your accuracy.
