Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir or mam

I hope you are doing well. I am Ben, I organised our company's last meeting at Paramount hotel in Peterborough. I have got plathora of feedbacks from emplyoees of our organisation. which I would like to share with you.

First of all, the candidates liked the environment of the hotel, as, it was so serene and peaceful. Likewise, they had also enjoyed the country music, which had had played by manager of hotel. Moreover, the room we got for meeting, it was so spacious and it had proper lighting, thus everyone were impressed about these things.

On the contrary, participants did not enjoy the food. The food was all non-vegetarian, however, in our organisation, planty of staff are not only vegetarian and but also vegan. Therefore, it made them unconfortable to eat at meeting. Additionly, the food was not warm enough, on account of, chef had made food around 10 AM. We should make a list about employees choices of food from the next time, also, need order food half hour ago, when meeting is about to finish.

Kind regards,

Ben Green.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have covered all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully mention what the participants liked about the hotel, such as the serene environment and the room's space and lighting. You also clearly explain why they were unhappy about the food, pointing out the lack of vegetarian and vegan options as well as the temperature of the meals. Finally, you offer practical suggestions for future improvements, recommending a dietary preference list and better timing for food preparation. Your ideas are relevant and appropriate for a general training letter, earning a solid Band 6.5 for addressing all aspects of the task effectively, although some points could be slightly more elaborated to reach higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical structure appropriate for a formal complaint and feedback letter. You have used paragraphing reasonably well to separate the introduction, the positive aspects, the negative aspects, and the concluding suggestions. However, some cohesive devices are mechanical or faulty, such as the use of 'which I would like to share with you' starting a new sentence fragment, and the slightly awkward transition 'On the contrary'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, for instance, 'the room we got for meeting, it was so spacious', which creates a duplicated subject error. These cohesion issues place your performance within the Band 6 descriptor.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'serene', 'spacious', and 'uncomfortable'. However, there are several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that detract from your writing. For instance, 'plathora' should be spelled 'plethora', 'emplyoees' should be 'employees', 'planty' should be 'plenty', and 'unconfortable' should be 'uncomfortable'. Furthermore, phrasing like 'had had played' and 'need order food' show inaccuracies in collocation and word choice. Because these lexical errors are frequent enough to be noticeable, your lexical resource falls into the Band 5.5 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in your grammar. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter. Examples include punctuation and sentence structure issues like 'I am Ben, I organised...', comma splices ('...serene and peaceful. Likewise...'), and subject-verb agreement errors such as 'everyone were impressed'. Additionally, errors like 'which had had played by manager' and 'on account of, chef had made food' show weak control over passive voice and article usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict your score to Band 5.0 due to their frequency.
