Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You successfully addressed all parts of the task by mentioning what participants liked about the hotel, explaining why they were unhappy with the food, and suggesting improvements for the future. Your points are relevant, covering the helpful staff and decoration, as well as the cold and dry afternoon meals. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed, and the response sits at a lower band partly because the length requirement is not met: the response contains only 114 words, falling significantly short of the 150-word minimum. To reach a higher level, you need to write more fully and extend your ideas with greater detail, ensuring you meet the minimum length while thoroughly developing each bullet point.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement, and you successfully divided your thoughts into logical paragraphs with an appropriate greeting and sign-off. You use basic cohesive devices to connect your ideas, such as "However" and "Also". However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes a bit mechanical or faulty, as seen in the sentence flow and paragraph transitions. To achieve a higher score, you would need to demonstrate a more flexible and natural use of cohesive devices, ensuring smoother progression between sentences and a more sophisticated overall structure throughout the entire letter.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You demonstrated an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using everyday terms and attempting some less common phrases like "hospitality" and "recommend". However, there are noticeable word-choice and word-form errors that reflect a limited control over vocabulary, such as writing "I apologized from them" instead of "to them", and spelling issues like spacing around punctuation. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict your score. To improve, you should focus on accurate collocations, natural prepositions associated with specific verbs, and precise word choices suited to a formal letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You used a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as subordinate clauses ("which made them angry because...") and conditional ideas. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing capitalization ("Dear sir", "All individuals"), missing spaces after punctuation marks, and tense choices. Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to understand your message clearly. To reach a higher band, you need to produce more error-free sentences while maintaining a varied mix of complex structures and exercising tighter control over punctuation and article usage.
