Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir

My name is Shikhavat and recently we organised a meeting at your hotel. I want to appriciate your hospitality and services by writing this letter to you. All our estimmed guests were mesmerized by the accomodation and the luxurious meeting hall, although with the heavy heart, they were displeased by the refreshments served.

Our guests involved one of the biggest names known in automobile industries. The acuostics provided by the hotel's meeting room with comfortable seeting arrangement and highest quality of surround sound experience was genuenly applaud by the members. The slight discomfort was with the food that was served. The complaints were basically about sea food , that does not seem fresh and reeks of bad oder, that made their attention diverted and disrupted the meeting for a while, until it was order to send out.

I want you to look at this problem on behalf of your culinery staff as it could effect businesses that involves with you in future. Maybe personal selection of fresh food could help you control this demeaning situation

I hope when we have another meeting we could not face same problem

Thank you

Yours Truly

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully covers all the required bullet points of the prompt, ensuring the task is adequately fulfilled. You effectively mention what the participants liked about the hotel, such as the luxurious meeting hall and the accommodation. Furthermore, you explain the dissatisfaction regarding the food, pointing out issues with the seafood, and you provide a practical suggestion for improvement by recommending personal selection of fresh ingredients. However, the development of these ideas varies in depth. While some points are clearly stated, others, such as the explanation of the food issues and the future improvements, remain slightly generalised and under-developed rather than fully extended. To reach a higher level, you should expand on your points with greater detail and ensure all parts of the prompt receive equal, thorough elaboration.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a recognisable structure suitable for formal correspondence, beginning with an appropriate opening and closing appropriately. Progression is generally apparent as you move from appreciation to the problem and finally to the suggestion. However, the cohesion between sentences and paragraphs is occasionally mechanical or faulty. For instance, transitional phrases and referencing are sometimes awkward, such as the abrupt shift between paragraphs without smooth logical bridges. Additionally, paragraphing could be managed more effectively to group related ideas together more clearly. To improve cohesion, you should work on using a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure referencing terms link ideas seamlessly across the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

An adequate range of vocabulary is deployed to complete the task, allowing you to communicate your message effectively. You make commendable attempts to use less common items and industry-specific vocabulary, such as 'hospitality', 'mesmerized', and 'acoustics'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'appriciate', 'estimmed', 'accomodation', 'acuostics', 'seeting', 'genuenly', 'oder', 'culinery', and 'effect' instead of 'affect'. These errors indicate a lack of precision, though they rarely impede overall communication. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on expanding your range of less common vocabulary while eliminating spelling mistakes and ensuring precise word choices and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, reflecting an attempt to vary your grammatical structures. You successfully construct some complex sentences, such as 'All our estimmed guests were mesmerized by the accomodation...' and 'The complaints were basically about sea food, that does not seem fresh...'. Nevertheless, there are some persistent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly with relative clauses, verb tenses, and prepositions, such as 'that does not seem' instead of 'that did not seem', 'until it was order' instead of 'ordered', and 'businesses that involves' instead of 'businesses that involve'. Punctuation errors, such as missing commas and erratic capitalization, also occur. These errors do not impede communication, but to progress, you need to produce a higher proportion of error-free sentences when attempting complex structures.
