Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to provide some valueable feedbacks for your hotel. Recently, I had visit the place as I held the meeting for a whole day. Many participants loved the location, ambitions and service facilities of the hotel. Hotel is decorated with antique art and that's an eye catching for everyone.
However, we were unsatisfied with your food service. In the noon, when we got our food, many vegetables were spoiled and had foul smell as well. Moreover, I have seen one of your waiter serving vegeterian and non-vegeterian food without changing the gloves.
In my training a proper training is neccessary to avoid these types of mistake in your kitchen. Apart from this, a proper background check before recruitment may reduces the chances of basic mistakes. Therefore, I believe work background check and adequate training can improve the food service in future.
Thank you so much for your understanding. I hope this feedback might help you to improve your services.
yours faithfully,
Riya

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You successfully address all parts of the prompt, satisfying the core requirements of a formal letter. You outline what participants liked about the hotel, such as the location and service facilities, explain the dissatisfaction regarding the spoiled food and unhygienic practices, and offer concrete suggestions for improvement like staff training. However, the response sits at this level because some ideas are slightly under-developed or touch upon areas briefly without full extension. For instance, the explanation of the food issues mentions spoiled vegetables and hygiene, but this could be elaborated further to fully reach higher bands. Your tone is appropriately formal and polite throughout, ensuring the communicative purpose is clearly achieved.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
Your letter demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. You utilise paragraphing effectively, giving each bullet point and core message its own dedicated section, starting with an appropriate greeting and concluding with a standard sign-off. Cohesive devices are generally used well to connect your thoughts, such as using 'However', 'Moreover', and 'Therefore' to signal shifts in argument and consequence. While referencing is mostly clear, minor mechanical elements in cohesion prevent a higher score, yet the overall structure is coherent and allows the reader to follow your narrative smoothly from the positive opening to the constructive recommendations.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You display an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and attempting to convey specific business concepts. However, there are notable word choice, word form, and spelling errors that prevent a higher band. For example, 'valueable feedbacks' contains a spelling error and treats the uncountable noun 'feedback' as plural. Similarly, 'ambitions' is misused in place of ambiance or atmosphere, and 'vegeterian' contains a spelling mistake. Despite these noticeable slips, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter, and the vocabulary used is sufficient to communicate your points to the hotel manager.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional clauses and relative relationships. There are several errors in grammar and punctuation, such as tense consistency issues in 'Recently, I had visit the place as I held the meeting', article misuse in 'Hotel is decorated', and prepositional inaccuracies. Additionally, phrases like 'a proper training is neccessary' contain minor structural redundancies. Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication, and the basic meaning of your sentences remains accessible to the reader. Good control over the letter format is maintained.
