Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I respectfully write this letter inform you about the feedback of my colleagues. We conducted a company meeting last Saturday in your hotel.

My boss and colleagues are really delighted that we arranged the meeting on your hotel because the room was ample and very clean and the hospitality are overwhelming and you gave us efficient and cooperative. However, there's some complained about how the food you served us. The food is really good looking but the taste is very salty and some are not cooked well. That my boss are not satisfied about that

Overall, you gave us such a wonderful performance and overwhelming hospitality. However, you need to fixed the food in your future clients. I would say need to change the chef or training ability to cook. Hope you don't mind my opinion and take this advised.

Thank you so much.

Yours Faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points in the task: you identify the clean, spacious meeting room and welcoming service as positives, explain that the food was too salty and not properly cooked, and recommend action for future events. This gives the letter a clear purpose and relevant content. The positive feedback is reasonably specific, but the proposed improvements—“change the chef or training ability to cook”—are unclear and not fully developed. Explain more precisely whether the hotel should train kitchen staff, review recipes, or check food before serving. The closing also asks the manager to accept your opinion, but a more direct, professional request for a response or improvement would make the purpose clearer. The response covers the task well overall, with some ideas needing fuller development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter follows a recognisable order: it introduces the meeting, gives positive feedback, describes the lunch problem, and ends with suggestions and a polite closing. Paragraphing helps separate the main points, and “However” signals the contrast between the hotel’s strengths and the food complaint. At times, though, the progression is weakened by unclear links, such as “That my boss are not satisfied about that,” which does not connect smoothly to the preceding explanation. The final paragraph repeats “wonderful performance and overwhelming hospitality” rather than moving directly to a clear recommendation. Use separate, focused paragraphs and connect each point explicitly—for example, explain how the food affected participants before presenting practical improvements.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the situation, including “meeting,” “hospitality,” “salty,” and “not cooked well,” so the main message is understandable. There are also attempts at more formal expressions, such as “I respectfully write” and “take this advised,” but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural and make the letter sound less fluent. For example, “the room was ample” is not the usual way to describe a meeting room, and “wonderful performance” does not clearly refer to the hotel’s service. “Some complained” also needs a more natural expression such as “some participants complained.” Aim for precise, conventional collocations and use a consistent formal register; this will make your adequate range more effective.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a sentence that contrasts the positive hotel experience with the food complaint. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction are frequent enough to affect clarity. Examples include “I respectfully write this letter inform you” (missing “to”), “the hospitality are,” and “you need to fixed.” The sentence “That my boss are not satisfied about that” is also incomplete and has subject–verb agreement problems. Practise building accurate clauses with a clear subject and verb, and check verb patterns after modal verbs (“need to fix”) and reporting expressions. More reliable control of these basic structures will make your meaning easier to follow.
