Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I recently conducted an all-day professional meeting for my company at your hotel. I am writing this letter on behalf of the participants who gave some feedback regards to your service and facilities.
Participants liked many things about the hotel. They appreciated the infrastructure of your hotel. Moreover, they liked the customer care service which you have provided to us. Along with that, the working staff were very supportive and friendly in nature.
Unfortunately, they were unhappy about the food. The paramount reason is that the food was stale and very spicy. So, some of the participants got some stomach problems after having this food. They were diagnosed with food poisoning and were admitted to the hospital to get treatment.
I would like to give some suggestions regarding enhancement of quality in food at your restaurant. Firstly, you should prepare fresh food each and every time. Secondly, you can use good-quality ingredients. Lastly, you should hire experienced chefs for the preparation of meals.
Thank you for your continued support. I am looking forward to your response.
Yours sincerely,
Shubham Savaliya

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a clear, appropriately formal purpose. You identify positive features—“the infrastructure,” customer care, and supportive staff—and explain the complaint with specific consequences, including stomach problems and hospital treatment. Your recommendations to prepare fresh food, use better ingredients, and hire experienced chefs are relevant. This clear coverage and supporting detail make the response effective. To strengthen the development further, explain more precisely what made the meal unsuitable—for example, whether the spice level was unexpected or whether the food had been left out—and connect each proposed action to the reported problem. The opening and closing are also suitable for a formal letter to a hotel manager.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information is arranged in a clear sequence: purpose, positive feedback, the food complaint, and recommendations. Separate paragraphs make each part easy to locate, and transitions such as “Moreover,” “Unfortunately,” and “Firstly” help guide the reader. This is a coherent overall structure. Some linking is rather mechanical, however, particularly the repeated list markers “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Lastly,” while “Along with that” adds another transition without much need. The reference in “this food” is understandable, but the relationship between the stale food and the reported illness could be linked more smoothly. Use a wider variety of natural connections and make the progression between cause, consequence, and recommendation more explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the purpose, including relevant terms such as “participants,” “supportive,” “stale,” “ingredients,” and “experienced chefs.” The vocabulary communicates the complaint and suggestions clearly, and some less common choices show an attempt to be precise. However, several expressions are awkward or imprecise in this context: “feedback regards to your service,” “infrastructure” for hotel features, and “enhancement of quality in food” sound unnatural. “Paramount reason” is also an overly strong and unsuitable collocation here. Aim for conventional, precise phrases used in formal correspondence, such as “feedback on your service,” “facilities,” and “improve the quality of the meals.” This would make the language more natural and controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, and most of the message remains easy to understand. For example, “I am writing this letter on behalf of the participants who gave…” uses a relative clause, while the recommendations are expressed in clear sentences. Some grammatical inaccuracies remain. In “the working staff were very supportive,” the article is unnecessary; “the staff were…” is more natural. “The paramount reason is that…” shifts into the present tense while describing feedback about a past event; “The main reason was that…” would keep the time reference consistent. The phrase “got some stomach problems” is also grammatically possible but less natural than “developed stomach problems.” Continue checking articles and tense consistency, while practising varied sentence structures.
