Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
Myself Krishnkant Sharma. I am writing this letter to provide feedback on your hotel and your staff's services during our company's meeting on Friday.
Firstly, I would like to thank you on behalf of my entire company and team for arranging such a beautiful event. We all really had a great time, and especially our CEO liked the way your staff served and the way they greeted our guests.
Secondly, I would like to bring your notice to the main issue that is your food. Everyone felt that the food was not up to the mark and also the fish was overcooked. This really left a bad impression on our foreign delegates and our team members. We also informed to the supervisor on the floor and he helped us and get the new dishes for us.
Thirdly, I wish you to please work with staff and get them proper training for food section as this the main thing for any hotel. This is not only effecting your hotel re

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address the main points by praising the staff’s service and welcome, identifying overcooked fish and dissatisfaction with the meal, and recommending staff training. These details make the complaint relevant and specific. However, the positive feedback focuses mainly on the staff rather than clearly explaining what participants liked about the hotel itself, and the proposed improvement is quite general. The final sentence is cut off (“This is not only effecting your hotel re…”), so the recommendation and closing purpose are left incomplete. To strengthen the letter, describe a hotel feature participants appreciated, explain the food concerns more fully, and give a practical suggestion such as reviewing the menu or checking food quality before service.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: an opening, positive feedback, the food complaint, and a recommendation. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Thirdly” make the progression easy to recognise. This is coherent, though the numbered transitions feel somewhat mechanical for a formal letter. Some links between ideas could be smoother; for example, the supervisor’s response is added after the complaint without explaining whether the replacement dishes resolved the problem. The unfinished final sentence also interrupts the ending. Use more natural transitions and complete the final paragraph with a clear concluding request or thanks.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main message, including “foreign delegates,” “overcooked,” “bad impression,” and “proper training.” These choices show some range beyond basic words. However, several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “provide feedback on your hotel,” “bring your notice,” and “not up to the mark.” The phrase “food section” is also vague, and “effecting” is not the intended word in the unfinished final sentence. Aim for more precise, natural collocations suited to a formal complaint, such as “draw your attention to,” “the meal did not meet expectations,” and “catering staff.” Proofread word forms and spelling so that errors do not distract from your message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more developed sentence forms, and most of the message remains understandable. For example, “Everyone felt that the food was not up to the mark” uses a subordinate clause effectively. However, errors occur in basic sentence construction and verb patterns: “Myself Krishnkant Sharma” needs a complete introductory sentence, “I would like to thank you on behalf…” is followed by an awkward construction, and “we also informed to the supervisor” has an incorrect verb pattern. In “he helped us and get the new dishes,” the verb forms do not agree. The final sentence is incomplete, making its grammar impossible to follow. Check sentence completeness, verb forms, and prepositions, then proofread each sentence aloud.
