Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Thomas jackson at Hotel Riveria,

I am writing today to give the feedback on our recent visit at Hotel Riveria which took place last friday on behalf of our company TNX software enterprise. It has been brought to my attention from the attende's about the unpleasant experience of food at lunch that was served.

Firslty, I would start with the welcome center which had been wonderful by the hotel staff who took care of easy navigation from the lobby to the hall and providing refreshments to the arrivals. Ambience, Interior design and the decore was very unique which contributes to the high appraisal. But that was followed up by food that was not leveled up to the people's expectation.

The food served at lunch found undercooked, improperely seasoned steak turned down many heads with the instant disappointmenet to the attendes. I would llike to address that and send some advice to be improved in the future. More attention needs to be given to the marination of the steak for mouth watering taste that needs to be followed up by cook with monitored time for perfectly cooked steak.

I hope my feedback would help hotel getting attention with the exceptional food and service to the clients in future.

Regards,

Alex

Manager from TNX

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you praise the staff’s help with navigation and refreshments, describe the hotel’s interior, explain that the steak was undercooked and poorly seasoned, and recommend improving its preparation. These details make the complaint relevant and give the manager a clear sense of the problem. However, the positive feedback focuses more on the welcome area and décor than on the hotel overall, and the proposed remedy is quite narrow: it concentrates on marinating and monitoring the steak rather than offering broader steps, such as checking food quality or gathering dietary preferences. Develop these suggestions and clarify what participants particularly valued about the venue to make the letter more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall progression: you introduce the purpose, describe positive aspects, explain the lunch complaint, and close with a recommendation. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and transitions such as “Firstly” and “But” guide the reader through the contrast. This already gives the response a coherent structure. Some links are less smooth, however: “But that was followed up by food” is an awkward transition, and “I would like to address that and send some advice” does not clearly connect the complaint to the specific recommendation that follows. Use more natural linking phrases and make references such as “that” explicit, so the reader can follow the relationship between each point without pausing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of vocabulary suited to a formal complaint, including “navigation,” “appraisal,” “undercooked,” and “seasoned.” These choices help communicate both the positive feedback and the food problem. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “welcome center” for the hotel’s reception area, “high appraisal,” and “food that was not leveled up to the people’s expectation.” Spelling errors, including “Firslty,” “decore,” and “disappointmenet,” also reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Aim for precise, conventional expressions and proofread carefully; for example, describe the meal as “below participants’ expectations” and the décor as “distinctive.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more developed sentence forms, including a relative clause in “which took care of easy navigation” and a recommendation expressed with “needs to be given.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity and naturalness. For example, “the food served at lunch found undercooked” is missing a verb, while “Ambience, Interior design and the decore was” has a subject–verb agreement problem. There are also issues with articles and sentence construction in “help hotel getting attention.” Work on complete clauses, agreement, and article use, and check punctuation around long sentences. More accurate control of these patterns would make your formal tone more convincing.
