Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear sir and madam,
I am writing to privide feedback regarding an all- day company meeting that my organization recently hosted at your hotel.
overall, our team was extremely pleased with the venue. The participants appreciated the modern meeting rooms, the helpfullness of your front dest staff and the comfortable atmosphere which greatly contributed to the success of our event.
However, we received several complaints regarding the lunch that was served. Many participants noted that the good lacked variety and the vegetarian options were quite limited. Additionally, several attendees mentioned that the main courses were cold by the time tehy were served and that the quality did not match the high standards of the rest of the venue.
To improve the dinning experincefor future corporate events, i suggest offeringa broader selection of menu choices including clear labelingfor dietary restrictions. It would also be beneficial to coordinate more closely with your catering team to ensure mealsare served at the proper temperature.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and i look forward to seeing these improvements when we host future events at your hotel.
Your faithfully,
Harmanpreet kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
The letter covers all three required points clearly. You identify what participants valued—the “modern meeting rooms,” helpful front-desk staff and comfortable atmosphere—then explain specific lunch problems, including limited vegetarian choice, cold main courses and disappointing quality. Your suggestions are relevant and practical: broaden the menu, label dietary options and coordinate with catering staff. These details make the feedback well developed and appropriate for a hotel manager. The purpose and intended future relationship are also clear in the closing reference to hosting future events. To make the response even more complete, you could specify how the hotel might gather dietary requirements or check food temperature before service; these would add a little more precision, though the task is already addressed well.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 8.0
The information is arranged in a clear, effective sequence: purpose, positive feedback, complaints, recommendations and a courteous closing. Paragraphing separates these functions appropriately, and transitions such as “However,” “Additionally” and “To improve” help the reader follow the shift from praise to concerns and solutions. The examples within the complaint paragraph also build logically from menu variety to serving temperature and overall quality. The letter’s progression is easy to follow without needing to reread. For even smoother cohesion, ensure the opening and closing conventions are consistently presented, and consider linking the recommendations directly to the specific problems—for example, connect menu variety to the limited vegetarian options.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use a suitable range of vocabulary for a formal complaint, including “participants,” “dietary restrictions,” “broader selection” and “proper temperature.” These choices communicate the issues and recommendations precisely, and the tone is generally appropriate. However, several spelling errors and word-form or collocation problems reduce the accuracy and polish of the vocabulary, including “privide,” “helpfullness,” “dinning experincefor” and “offeringa.” “Good lacked variety” also appears to be an unintended word choice where “food” is needed. This fits a response with adequate range and some effective less-common language, but not yet consistently accurate control. Proofreading spelling and checking common collocations would help you use this range more confidently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
The letter includes a useful mix of sentence forms, including the complex sentence describing the atmosphere “which greatly contributed to the success of our event” and the recommendation sentence beginning “To improve…” Most sentences are understandable, and the complaint and suggestion sections are expressed with generally sound grammatical control. Some errors remain in capitalization and punctuation, such as beginning “overall” and “i” with lowercase letters, and the closing formula “Your faithfully” is grammatically incorrect. There are also missing spaces around words that make sentence boundaries and phrasing less polished. These issues do not obscure the message, but careful editing of sentence openings, pronouns and the sign-off would improve accuracy.
