Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to share my experience and I want to suggest you about your the services at your hotel.
Recently, I organised an all-day meeting at your Comfort hotel in Burlington for my employees on 5th November 2026.
My employees enjoyed the environment and services that your hotel provided such as they are served with cold water and some drinks during the meeting. Moreover, They also liked the tempereture of the meeting hall constantly maitained.
Unfortunetely, some of the participants did not enjoy the food because the food came really late, we had to wait for two hours. once we started with some starter dishes that food was cold so, we requested the staff to replace it with hot ones. On top of that, when we started our main course the item served were lack of some items that were mentioned in the order. This has caused me and all participants a considerable inconvenience.
I would appreciate it if you could train your staff properly for any big events, there could be significant improvement in your services. As your hotel has nice ambiance the improvement in services and food quality could improve your customer feedback.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Margee

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you identify the hotel’s meeting environment, drinks and hall temperature as positives, explain the late, cold and incomplete meal, and recommend staff training. The complaint is specific and relevant, especially the two-hour wait and missing items. This meets the task well, though some points are less fully developed than others: the positive feedback focuses mainly on meeting facilities rather than the hotel more broadly, and the improvement suggestion is limited to training staff. To strengthen the letter, explain what practical changes you expect, such as checking meal orders in advance, serving food on schedule and ensuring dishes are hot. The purpose and polite closing are clear.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: it opens with its purpose, gives the positive feedback, describes the food problems, and ends with a recommendation and closing. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and connectors such as “Moreover,” “Unfortunately” and “On top of that” make relationships between ideas clear. Some linking is less controlled, however: the food complaints are packed into one long sentence, and “On top of that” adds another problem without much variation in how the details are organised. The reference in “that food” is also not entirely smooth. Separate the delay, temperature and missing items into clearer sentences, and use transitions selectively to make the progression feel more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You communicate the main points with an adequate range, including “considerable inconvenience,” “participants,” “main course” and “customer feedback.” However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “tempereture,” “maitained” and “Unfortunetely” are misspelled, while “suggest you about your the services” and “the item served were lack of some items” are awkward or unclear. Some wording is also repetitive, particularly repeated uses of “food,” “services” and “improvement.” These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the complaint, but they make the letter less natural and polished. Check spelling carefully and choose more precise collocations, such as “provide feedback on your service” and “the dishes were missing items listed in our order.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and the sequence of events is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in sentence construction, agreement and articles. For example, “I want to suggest you about your the services” has an incorrect verb pattern and duplicated determiner; “the item served were” has a subject–verb agreement problem; and “that food was cold so, we requested” has faulty punctuation around the conjunction. The sentence beginning “My employees enjoyed…” also shifts awkwardly into “such as they are served.” These errors rarely obscure the intended meaning, but they limit accuracy. Practise standard patterns such as “I would like to offer suggestions about…” and check agreement, tense consistency and punctuation when joining clauses.
