Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir,

I am writing this letter to feedback for my boking at your hotel.

First I will tell you what participants liked at your hotel, it was a great customer service, participants recieved greeting at entrance, and hotel looks so good and it has lot of aminities like, ample parking space, lift service, and robot as a servers. The big chandlier at entrance enhance personality of hotel.

However, participants did not like the food was served, according to them food has lot of spices, and food was dry which looks not fresh, which was not a good experience. If it is keep continued it will impact you buisness.

I will give you some suggestions that how you can improve food quality so other people should not suffer and you can keep youself in buisness. The suggestion is that before perparing food please have a small written survey from customers about any allergies, spice level, and provide food options to choose. Also, please always make fresh food.

Your sincearely,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you describe the hotel’s service and facilities, explain that the lunch was overly spicy and dry, and recommend asking about allergies and spice preferences and serving fresh food. These details make the complaint relevant and give the manager practical steps to consider. The positive feedback is more fully illustrated than the food complaint, which would benefit from a clearer explanation of how the meal affected participants or why it seemed stale. The suggestions are useful, but could be more specific—for example, offering several menu choices or checking food quality before serving. The letter’s purpose is clear throughout, though a more formal opening and closing would better suit a letter to a hotel manager.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: it opens with its purpose, moves from positive comments to the complaint, and ends with recommendations. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these functions, and signposts such as “However” and “Also” make the progression easy to follow. Some linking is mechanical, particularly “First I will tell you” and “I will give you some suggestions,” which announce the next point rather than connecting ideas naturally. The long sentence listing the hotel’s features also makes the details feel crowded. To strengthen progression, group related details and use clearer references—for instance, connect the food’s dryness and strong spices directly to participants’ dissatisfaction. The closing is present, but its placement and form could be made more conventional.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “customer service,” “ample parking space,” “spice level,” and “food options.” There are also attempts at more specific description, such as “big chandelier” and “robot as a servers,” although the latter is unclear and several choices are inaccurate or misspelled. Examples include “boking,” “aminities,” “buisness,” and “perparing”; these errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause. Phrases such as “food was dry which looks not fresh” and “enhance personality of hotel” are also unnatural collocations. Aim for accurate, conventional expressions before trying more elaborate wording, and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a conditional idea in “If it is keep continued it will impact you buisness” and a recommendation introduced by “before.” However, control is uneven, and errors in verb forms, sentence construction, articles, and agreement sometimes make the message difficult to read. For example, “participants did not like the food was served” needs a grammatical link such as “the food that was served,” while “food has lot of spices” needs an article and a more suitable tense. The opening sentence also uses an incorrect structure after “writing.” Build accuracy by checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, and use shorter sentences when listing details.
