Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to express my dissatisfaction with your hotel food services that I experienced on September 23, 2026.
My team members were like some your hotel services such as interior design of your hotel, decoration , and washroom hygiene. Also your staff behaviour is very friendly.
The main problem was that food is not enough hot. In addition taste of food is ot good. As a result, I experienced considerable inconvenience and felt disappointed with the service provided. Due to of that some of my freinds were not eat properly.
I think you should improve your staff for food service and provide some food knowledge to kitchen staff about how quantity and quality of food looks , how you present more attractive food in dish.
I hope you will take my complaint seriously and resolve this issue as soon as possible and take some actions.
thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Kajal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you identify the hotel’s interior design, decoration, washroom hygiene and friendly staff, explain that the lunch was not hot enough and did not taste good, and recommend improving food-service staff and kitchen staff’s knowledge. The purpose of the letter is clear and the complaint is relevant. However, some points are less fully developed: for example, explain whether the food was cold, poorly prepared or lacking in variety, and make your recommendations more specific, such as checking serving temperatures or asking participants about dietary preferences. The response covers the task, but these details would make the explanation and proposed action more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening purpose, positive comments, the food complaint, recommendations and a closing. Paragraphing helps the reader follow the main points, and connectors such as “Also,” “As a result” and “Due to that” show attempts to link ideas. Some links are mechanical or unclear, however; “Due to of that” does not form a clear connection, and the shift from the food problem to “I experienced considerable inconvenience” is not fully explained. The recommendation paragraph also combines several suggestions in one long sentence. Use more precise transitions and separate the actions into clear steps to make the progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for a hotel complaint, including “interior design,” “washroom hygiene,” “considerable inconvenience” and “quality of food.” This gives you enough language to communicate the main message, but the range and control are uneven. Several phrases are unnatural or imprecise, such as “were like some your hotel services,” “food services” and “provide some food knowledge.” There are also spelling errors in “ot” and “freinds,” and “staff behaviour is very friendly” would be more naturally expressed as “the staff were friendly.” Aim for accurate collocations and specific terms for the problem and solution, such as “served lukewarm” and “food preparation standards.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Your letter includes simple statements and some attempts to connect ideas, so the main message is generally understandable. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, particularly in verb forms, articles and sentence construction. For example, “food is not enough hot” needs a different adjective structure, while “some of my freinds were not eat properly” has an incorrect verb form. “My team members were like some your hotel services” also lacks a clear grammatical structure, and “Due to of that” is not a correct construction. The recommendation sentence beginning “I think you should improve…” is difficult to follow because several ideas are joined without a clear structure. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build longer sentences around one main clause at a time.
