Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my authentic personal reviews on the hotel visit. Since the hotel lounge was booked for an entire day, it was for an official purpose where around seventy of my employees were accumulated. The foremost thing which pleased us was welcoming nature of your staff from the beginning of the event to until evening. Additionally, I would like to appreciate your efforts to make the projectors available and lhe lighting arrangements were excellent.
One thing which caused dismay was the lunch meal. Unfortunately, some of my staff members later informed me that meat served there was raw. Considering my goodwill they curbed down the hotel's chef negligence, however, the matter came out when I asked them aout their feedback. Personally, it was an embarrasing moment for me.
As you are well-informed that the raw meat consumption causes severe heath concerns. For upcoming large gatherings, bear in a mind to cut the served meat in two pieces to make confirmation regarding it's nature. Otherwise, hire some expert cooks who could handle the job effeiciently.
I hope you would take it seriously and accordingly improvished the quality of meals.
Yours faithfully,
Kim

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points and maintain an appropriate formal purpose: you praise the staff and facilities, explain that the meat was raw, and offer suggestions for future meals. The specific details about the staff, projectors and lighting make the positive feedback clear. The complaint is also understandable, but the explanation of why participants were unhappy is brief, and the proposed remedy of cutting meat into two pieces is unclear as a way to check whether it is properly cooked. The suggestion to hire expert cooks is more relevant, but could be developed with a practical request, such as checking food preparation or offering menu choices. This covers the task well overall, though some ideas need clearer explanation and support.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter is organised into clear paragraphs that move from positive feedback to the food complaint and then to recommendations. This gives the reader a logical progression, and linking expressions such as “Additionally,” “Unfortunately,” and “For upcoming large gatherings” help signal the stages of your message. The closing is also appropriate for a formal letter. Some connections are less smooth: “Considering my goodwill they curbed down the hotel's chef negligence” is difficult to follow, and “As you are well-informed” does not connect naturally to the point about health risks. Use simpler, more direct transitions and make the relationship between each sentence explicit. Overall, the structure is clear, with a few awkward links interrupting the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonably varied vocabulary for a formal complaint, including “dismay,” “arrangements,” “consumption,” and “severe health concerns.” These choices show an attempt to use less common language, and the main message remains understandable. However, several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “authentic personal reviews,” “employees were accumulated,” and “curbed down the hotel's chef negligence.” There are also spelling errors, including “aout,” “embarrasing,” “heath,” and “effeiciently,” which reduce precision. Aim for natural collocations rather than more elaborate wording: for example, say that employees “attended” the meeting and that the meat “was undercooked.” This would make the letter sound clearer and more professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “Since the hotel lounge was booked…” and “that meat served there was raw.” The overall meaning can usually be followed, but some grammatical errors and awkward constructions affect clarity. For example, “from the beginning of the event to until evening” uses an incorrect prepositional pattern, while “bear in a mind” has an unnecessary article. In “I hope you would take it seriously and accordingly improvished,” the verb form and sentence construction are not controlled. The sentence beginning “Considering my goodwill…” is also difficult to parse. Practise accurate article use, verb forms, and simpler clause structures before adding complexity; this will help your varied attempts communicate reliably.
